The majority of tools produce text that requires editing before it's publishable. Relatively few clear a high bar on long-form tasks.
The spread between top-tier and bottom-tier tools is larger than most people expect. Paying more doesn't reliably predict quality.
Higher-priced tools are not consistently better. Pricing correlates poorly with real-world output quality.
From signup to content you'd actually send to a client, some tools are fast and others are slow. Speed is one of our four scoring dimensions.
Across categories, only a small set of tools score high enough that we'd recommend them for regular client work.
Tools can improve meaningfully in a single quarter. We revisit reviews and update scores when a product changes.
How We Score
We review each tool through hands-on research — documentation, pricing, features, and real user feedback — across multiple content types. Trials are used where possible.
Scores are set on a consistent rubric before any affiliate links are added. Rankings are never influenced by commissions or vendor relationships.
Content Quality, Output Speed, Ease of Use, Value for Money, SEO Capability. Each 0–100. Final score is a weighted average.
AI tools update constantly. When a product ships a major update, we revisit the review and revise our scores.
Some links earn us a commission. We've given some of our lowest scores to tools with the best commission rates. Scores come first.
Reviews are researched, independently scored on a consistent rubric, and never sponsored. We are transparent about how we make money.

How WriteTested Makes Money
We earn affiliate commissions when readers click our links and buy a subscription. The commission comes from the tool company — not from you — and does not affect the price you pay.
Some of our lowest-rated tools pay the highest commissions. Our scoring methodology is set before we apply to any affiliate program — commissions never change a score.
We recommend tools we'd use on client work. If there's no tool we'd genuinely recommend in a category, we say so rather than force a 'Best Pick' verdict.
No tool company can pay to be reviewed, pay to improve a score, or pay for placement. Every review is independently researched and scored before any affiliate program is added.
Every review page with an affiliate link carries a visible disclosure. The disclosure is above the fold — not buried in a footer or inside a privacy policy.
