About Our Reviews
How does WriteTested score AI tools?
Every tool is scored across four dimensions: Output Quality (40%), Feature Depth (25%), Ease of Use (20%), and Speed (15%). Each dimension is scored 0-100 by the lead reviewer and cross-checked by a second reviewer. The overall score is the weighted average. Subscores are published on every review page so you can weight what matters to you.
How long does testing take?
Minimum 30 hours of hands-on testing before any score is published. High-traffic or high-commission tools receive 50+ hours. Every review states the exact testing period and the date testing was completed. We don't publish trial-period reviews.
Do you accept free subscriptions from vendors?
No. Every subscription is purchased at the public retail rate. We don't accept free accounts, early access, or any arrangement where a vendor provides review access. This is non-negotiable — it's the only way to guarantee independence.
How often are reviews updated?
All active reviews are re-tested every 6 weeks. If a tool releases a major update, we re-test immediately. Score changes are documented on the review page with the date of the change and the reason. We never silently overwrite a historical score.
What do the verdict labels mean?
"Best" (85+ score): exceptional across most dimensions, a clear recommendation. "Good" (70-84): solid tool with clear strengths, worth the subscription for the right use case. "Neutral" (65-69): functional but not exceptional, alternatives likely exist. "Skip It" (below 65): doesn't deliver value at its price point, better alternatives exist.
Do you review all AI tools?
We prioritize tools based on reader interest, market relevance, and whether they fall within our coverage areas: AI writing, video, image, audio, SEO, coding, and productivity. We currently have 148 tools reviewed. Suggest a tool at hello@writetested.com — we read every request.
Affiliate & Monetization
Are your reviews sponsored?
No. We don't accept payment to review a tool, review it positively, or prioritize it in our testing queue. Tools are selected based on reader interest and market relevance, not commercial relationships.
Do you have affiliate relationships with the tools you review?
Some tools on this site have affiliate programs — if you sign up through a link on WriteTested, we earn a commission. This is disclosed at the top of every review page that contains affiliate links. Affiliate relationships are established after scoring is finalized, not before. We have given "Skip It" verdicts to tools we earn commissions from.
Does an affiliate relationship change the score or ranking?
No. Scores are finalized before any affiliate program is added to a review. We track this internally and have given negative verdicts to affiliate partners. If we ever find an error that reveals bias, we'll correct it publicly.
Why do some tools not have affiliate links?
Not every tool we review has a public affiliate program. When no program exists, we link directly to the tool's website without any tracking. We review based on quality, not commission availability.
Using WriteTested
How do I find the best tool for my specific use case?
Use our Best For pages — we've compiled tools by use case including YouTubers, developers, ecommerce sellers, teachers, coaches, and more. You can also filter the full tool directory by category, price, or score on the reviews page.
What do the category scores mean?
In each review, we include category-level subscores: Output Quality, Feature Depth, Ease of Use, and Speed — each scored 0-100. These let you prioritize based on what matters to you. If you're a power user who cares most about features, weight Feature Depth higher in your decision.
Can I suggest a tool for review?
Yes. Email hello@writetested.com with the tool name and why you think it's worth reviewing. We read all suggestions. We can't guarantee a timeline, but we do add the highest-demand tools to our queue.
I found an error in a review. How do I report it?
Email hello@writetested.com with evidence of the error. We take factual corrections seriously. Verified errors are corrected, disclosed on the review page, and logged in our corrections policy. See /corrections for our full policy and response SLAs.
Can I use WriteTested data or scores in my own content?
Yes, with attribution. You can cite WriteTested scores and findings in your own articles provided you credit WriteTested and link to the original review. Commercial use of bulk score data or review text requires permission — email hello@writetested.com.

Are there user accounts on WriteTested?
Not currently. We're a review publication, not a platform. No login required to read any content.
What data do you collect?
We use GA4 for anonymous traffic analytics and track affiliate link clicks to measure which tools readers are interested in. We collect email addresses for newsletter subscribers only. We don't sell or share user data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
